Ella Mensah on Bleaching for Movie Roles
Breaking through the iron gates of Africa’s acting industry has always been a reserve for those who are at least determined, disciplined and/or dedicated to the ‘game’.
While some people cut their dreams short, others move the extra miles, in order to hit that success spot.
Ghanaian actress Ella Mensah is one of the few who were/are bent on making it in the industry by undertaking any task to hit the limelight in Nollywood, Africa’s biggest movie industry.
The sultry actress Ella Mensah has revealed why she has bleached her skin and according to her, it’s because she want to feel connected in Nollywood.
The ‘Playboy’ actress who recently noted that she doesn’t date a man for more than two (2) years told Sammy Flex on the Showbiz Agenda show on Zylofon 102.1 FM.
According to Ella, “if you are a dark-skinned person, your talent alone is not going to push you up because a producer once told me that I have the height, the body and that I am pretty, but that the tone of my skin was dark and that if they put light on it, it doesn’t look attractive.”
‘’My decision to tone came in when I decided to act fully in Nigeria because I didn’t want a situation whereby in my own country (Ghana) I didn’t get all the opportunities I needed,” she added.
The ‘Bed of Roses’ actress also recounted how she was rejected by many people whom she asked for help from but never paid heed to her plea.
“I tried, I pushed hard and there are so many people I fell on to help me make it in Ghana but they refused. Today, they are nowhere near me and that is karma’’ she argued to justify why she is bleaching,” she said.
Ella Mensah is noted for movies like ‘Bed of Roses’, ‘I’m about to Wed’, ‘Pretty Queen’, ‘Shakira’ and ‘Deadline’ also believes there are a lot of great actors in Ghana.
